  3. These notes correspond to *pcl-system-date* "4/21/87  April 21rst 1987".

  5. The notes from the last release are stored as 3-19-notes.text

  7. This release runs in:

  10.   Symbolics Common Lisp (Genera)

  12.   Xerox Common Lisp (Lyric Release)
  13.   Kyoto Common Lisp (5.2)

  15. CMU Lisp (nee Spice) should be working soon, I will announce another
  16. release at that time.

  18. Xerox Lisp users should FTP all the source files from /pub/pcl/ as well
  19. as all the dfasl files from /pub/pcl/xerox/.  Included in the xerox
  20. specific directory is a file called PCL-ENV, which provides some simple
  21. environment support for using PCL in Xerox Lisp.

  24. The major difference in this release is that defclass conforms to the
  25. CLOS specification (pretty much I hope).  Previous warnings about what
  26. would happen when defclass became CLOS defclass now apply.  Once major
  27. difference is that PCL currently does require that all a classes
  28. superclasses be defined when a defclass form is evaluated.  This will
  29. change sometime soon.

  31. Other small changes include:

  33. Some more of the files have been renamed and restructured (as promised).

  35. the defclass parsing protocol has changed
  36.  
  37. slotd datastructures are now instances of the class
  38. standard-slot-description.

  40. a performance bug in the ExCL port which causes method lookup and slot
  41. access to cons needlessly.

  43. a bug in the 3600 port which broke the printer for stack consed closures
  44.  
  45. make-specializable
  46.  
  47. a bug in Lucid lisp which made it impossible to say (compile-pcl) has
  48. been patched around, this is the bug that manifested itself as NAME
  49. being ubound.
